Conservatives: Rolling Toward 2016 In Their Political Bubble

gopThey are beyond clueless. They go about their daily lives in a bubble of unfathomable ignorance while the world outside zooms by. They do not adapt to the times, even though it is absolutely necessary for their survival. These are today’s Conservatives – clinging to their antiquated view of how the world should be, and the desperate hope that Ronald Reagan might some day rise from the dead.

Nowhere is this divorce from reality more evident than in the people they believe are “electable” to the office of the Presidency. Recently, Matt Mackowiak wrote a post for Right Wing News titled, “Rick Perry Or Ted Cruz For 2016?”… I kid you not. Here’s some of that good old Conservative logic:

cruz imageCruz overwhelmingly won the Texas GOP 2016 convention straw poll, confirming his position as the conservative grassroots candidate.

Now take a look at this, it’s not some kid’s crayon scribbling on the wall, it’s the Republican straw polls from 2012:

Ron Paul took the most straw polls, 28 of them, but couldn’t win a state primary; Herman Cain won twice as many as Mitt Romney, but still suffered his third political defeat. Straw polls don’t amount to squat, especially when it’s your biggest idiot winning them.

I suppose you could call Cruz a “grassroots” candidate if you really stretch the meaning of the phrase. The face of the Tea Party may be that of the average Joe, but according to Source Watch:

… the Tea Party Movement benefits from millions of dollars from conservative foundations that are derived from wealthy U.S. families and their business interests. It appears that money to organize and implement the Movement flows primarily through two conservative groups: Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks.

… two “lobbyist-run think tanks” that are “well funded” and that provide the logistics and organizing for the Tea Party movement from coast to coast.

Cruz wears the grassroots persona like a costume when he makes public appearances, but as Moyers and Co. reports:

… it took him less than a week after he was elected to create his very own Leadership PAC – the Jobs, Growth and Freedom Fund. Even before he was sworn in as a senator, Cruz was playing the Washington money game.

And from whom did Senator Cruz solicit and receive contributions for his Leadership PAC?

How about representatives of such Washington establishment players as the American Bankers Association, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Northrop Gruman, CSX Corporation, Altria Group (parent company of Phillip Morris) and Comcast? And add to that list representatives of Union Pacific Corporation, FMR Corp (Fidelity Investments), the National Association of Broadcasters, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, Norfolk Southern, Compass Bancshares, among others.

Not exactly the voices of ordinary citizens and grassroots America.

And about that general election: In 34 national polls conducted by more than a dozen pollsters, Cruz hasn’t had a favorable rating in more than a year. Then there’s the non- GOP elephant in the room, his father’s phony immigration story, which is sure to become an issue in his campaign.

As for Rick Perry, his would be one of the biggest pie-in-the-sky GOP hopefuls. Remember, in the 2012 Republican debates this guy couldn’t even remember the 3 agencies he’d cut if he were elected (Should have used Caribou Barbie’s palm trick).

perryHe thinks Solyndra is a country, there are eight Supreme Court Justices (and Judge Judy breaks any tie votes), Juarez, Mexico is the most dangerous city in America, and the BP oil spill was an “act of God“. Get Mr. Mackowiak’s logic for why Perry should run:

Last time he hastily jumped in, unprepared, immediately after serious back surgery. Now, he is building up, and the most powerful advantage he will have is low expectations.

Low as in the only direction you could possibly go is up.

… Perry’s executive record of accomplishment is significant.

Here’s some of what Rick Perry has “accomplished”, via Think Progress:

1. He allowed Texas to become the nation’s worst polluter.

2. He executed a likely innocent man and impeded an investigation into the matter.

3. He actively sought to dismantle Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

4. He consistently backed legislation to restrict women’s reproductive rights.

5. He demonized LGBT Texans and worked to increase legal discrimination against them.

6. He backed nullification of federal laws and even raised the prospect of secession.

7. He refused to let the federal government provide healthcare for low-income Texans, despite the highest rate of uninsured residents in the country.

8. He vetoed bipartisan Equal Pay legislation to protect Texas women.

9. He called for repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, to end popular election of Senators and the federal income tax.

Will Conservatives vote for these guys, undoubtedly; then again, there’s a group out there trying to draft two-time loser Mitt Romney. Let them keep telling themselves they lose because they’re not conservative enough; in the meantime, we’ll just watch and chuckle – from outside the bubble.
